Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)
What is the EFMP?
EFMP is a mandatory enrollment program (AR 608-75) set up by each service to support families with special medical and educational needs throughout the service member’s career. Family members must enroll in EFMP when a qualifying condition is diagnosed. Each branch has its own EFMP and enrollment process.
Your EFMP Support Team in Grafenwoehr:
- EFMP Medical (Clinic): Handles medical and educational enrollment, updates, Command Sponsorship and overseas medical screenings (Family Member Travel Screening - FMTS).
- EFMP Family Support (Army Community Service - ACS): Provides non-medical support, including advocacy, support groups, respite care information, and community resources.
- School Liaison Officer (SLO) & EDIS: Assists with Educational and Developmental Intervention Services and navigating DoDEA school accommodations (IEPs/504 Plans).
Mandatory Maintenance & Updates
To ensure your family experiences no gaps in care or administrative delays, you are required to keep your EFMP file current:
- Medical Enrollments: Must be updated every three (3) years, or immediately if there is any change in the family member's medical or educational status.
- Educational Plans: Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) and Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs) must be updated annually (every year).
