Vicenza Army Health Clinic Services

Laboratory

Overview

The laboratory performs testing on blood and other body fluids, providing providers with information required for diagnosing diseases and monitoring patient treatments.
Due to patient privacy laws, we ask that you kindly wait in the main lobby until your lab number is called.

Scope of Services:

Specimens for testing are collected by laboratory or clinic personnel. Testing is performed in the laboratory by a variety of manual methods and sophisticated automated instruments. Tests not performed in the clinic lab are forwarded to reference labs in Germany or the United States, or to Ospedale San Bortolo, the local Italian hospital.

Eligible Beneficiaries:

Any beneficiary who is able to see in the clinic.
(We do not take orders from outside providers)

How to schedule an appointment:

Samples are collected at a walk-in basis. However, due to sample collection requirements, stability times and shipping schedules to LRMC, we may not be able to collect certain tests. If you have any questions, please contact the Lab (DSN: 636-9415/ CIV: 0444-61-9040).

Clinic Specific Information:

Q. How do I get my lab results?
A. The result availability of your laboratory studies may depend on the type of specimen, type of testing and the location of the study. This may take between 1 day to 2 weeks turn around time. Your lab results are most easily viewed on https://my.mhsgenesis.health.mil . You can also enroll in www.TOLSecureMessaging.com where you can set up an account to communicate directly with your care team and ask questions about your lab results, additional testing required, and treatment options. Only your medical provider/care team can discuss your lab results with you, so please contact your provider/care team through www.TOLSecureMessaging.com, by calling the main information/appointment line to leave a call back (message) request (+39-0444-61-9000) or schedule an appointment for a face to face discussion of your lab results and treatments.

Q. Do I need an appointment to get labs drawn?
A. Labs are drawn on a walk-in basis during duty hours. However, Lab staff may only collect samples if there is a provider order in place. You may present to the Lab for you MEDPROS HIV test without seeing a provider first.

Q. Can I get a STD/STI screening at the lab?
A. The lab offers walk-in, self-referral testing for the following diseases/infections: Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Gonorrhea and HIV. Tests for any other diseases/infections must be ordered by a provider. In order to give high accuracy results, the lab asks that patients report for testing 2 weeks after potential exposure; this wait period allows sample concentrations to reach detectable levels. Please inform the Lab staff if you require MEDPROS HIV with STD/STI screening.

Q. Do I need to be fasting for my labs?
A. Each Lab study comes with its own set of requirements. Not every lab will be a fasting lab. If you are in doubt as to whether you need to fast, please contact the lab (DSN: 636-9415/ CIV: 0444-61-9040).
