SHAPE Healthcare Facility Services

Pharmacy

We process new prescriptions and refills of covered medications for:
  • Active duty service members and their family members
  • NATO service members and their family members
  • Retirees and their family members
  • TRICARE Prime enrollees

For patients who don't have TRICARE medical coverage, it's mandatory to provide other health insurance information before picking up medications. Prescriptions are billed to either the civilian insurance on file or directly to the patient. It's the sole responsibility of the patient to understand their prescription coverage and associated copayments.

Filling New Prescriptions

We fill prescriptions from military, U.S., and authorized host nation providers from Clinique de la Brisée.

Providers from Our Facility

Your provider may submit a prescription directly to the pharmacy during or after your appointment.
  • You can activate the prescriptions and wait, or you can come back later to pick the prescriptions up.

Civilian and Foreign Providers

You can bring a written prescription to our pharmacy from a TRICARE-authorized U.S. or authorized foreign provider.

The pharmacy will fill prescriptions by host nation providers with the following conditions:
  • The provider must be from Clinique de la Brisée and must be listed in the pharmacy database.
  • The prescription must be in English and contain:
  1. Patient's full name and date of birth
  2. Drug name, strength, and quantity
  3. Dosage instructions in plain English
  4. Signed by the prescribing host nation physician
The pharmacy can't fill a prescription that doesn't meet the requirements listed above. Military physicians are prohibited from rewriting foreign prescriptions to meet these requirements.

If you hand-carry a written prescription:

Check in at the pharmacy kiosk. Follow on-screen prompts to check in, then wait for your ticket to be called.
  • All written prescriptions will take 24 hours to process.

Formulary

Landstuhl Regional Medical Center Pharmacy dispenses medications in accordance with TRICARE policies, requirements, and storage capacity limitations. This includes any prior authorization or medical necessity requirements and quantity limits. Many Uniform Formulary medications are readily available for dispensing. If the medication isn't stocked, patients should expect at least a 15- to 30-day wait before the medication is available.

Prior authorizations are required for certain medications. It's recommended that patients use the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool. It's the responsibility of the prescribing provider to complete and submit prior authorization or medical necessity forms to Express Scripts. Once approved, the pharmacy will dispense the medication pending availability.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if my prescription is covered?

All military pharmacies follow the TRICARE Formulary Search Tool – a list of TRICARE-covered prescription drugs and supplies. The TRICARE Formulary Search Tool lists:

  • Which drugs are covered
  • Drug information and frequently asked questions
  • Cost details ($0 at a military pharmacy and out-of-pocket costs elsewhere)
  • Medical necessity/prior authorization requirements and link to forms
  • If a prior authorization or medical necessity is required, your provider must submit the request to TRICARE before your prescription can be filled.

Can I refill a prescription if the last fill was not at a U.S. military pharmacy?

No, the SHAPE Pharmacy isn't equipped to transfer prescriptions.

Can I pick up medications for another person?

Yes! Please bring a valid Uniformed Services ID card (or photocopy, digital image) for all patients getting prescriptions. Please note: Children 10 years of age or older must have their own ID card.

What is the difference between a new, refill, and renewal prescription?

A new prescription is one a provider submits as an initial prescription for a specific medication.

A refill is an additional supply of your medication that your doctor authorized as part of your original prescription. This allows the pharmacy to dispense more of your medication without requiring a new prescription from your doctor.

A renewal is for a medication you’ve already been prescribed but it has expired or run out of authorized refills.

What if I need a non-formulary or non-stocked medication?

If you’re prescribed a non-formulary medication, there are extra steps for your provider to complete. For these drugs, expect a longer turnaround time for preparation and ordering, or you may have to use an alternative pharmacy option, such as a TRICARE retail network pharmacy or the TRICARE Pharmacy Home Delivery.

What do I do if my medication is out of stock?

I’m deploying. How can I fill my prescriptions?

Six-month supplies of a prescription can be filled for deploying U.S. service members. You must make an appointment with your provider with your orders.

Before deploying, military hospital or clinic pharmacies can provide your initial deployment prescription in a quantity to support your deployment within legal requirements. You can fill prescriptions and get refills through the Deployment Prescription Program while deployed if the location isn't restricted by foreign postal law.
