Contraceptive Care

Overview:

To provide temporary and permanent options for contraception that fits with a patient’s lifestyle and future family plans.  

Scope of Service:

Contraceptive options include pills, patch, vaginal ring, subdermal implant, intrauterine device (hormonal and non-hormonal), injection, condoms, and surgical sterilization.

Eligible Beneficiaries:

All Tricare Prime patients can be seen by the pharmacy or the Primary Care clinic for contraceptive management.

Tricare Standard patients and anyone with access to a DOD Pharmacy may utilize the Pharmacist Contraceptive Option.

How to Schedule an Appointment:

Appointments can be scheduled through the MHS Genesis Patient Portal at https://my.mhsgenesis.health.mil/  or by calling the call center during business hours at +39 0444 61 9000.

Clinic Specific Information:

Contraceptive Care is available from the Vicenza Pharmacy as well as the Primary Care Clinic. For procedural contraception, please plan on an initial counseling appointment prior to the procedure appointment. A urine pregnancy test may be required prior to IUD or Nexplanon insertions. Patients desiring permanent sterilization should schedule an appointment with their primary care physician to discuss options available to them. Consults can be placed to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center or the local economy as needed.

Primary Care Clinic: Patients will be offered the soonest available appointment for counseling. Procedure appointments may be performed same day pending availability. We offer local pain relief for all procedural contraceptive options, including IUDs. During your counseling session, your clinician will discuss other pain relief options that may be right for you.

Pharmacy: Offers walk-in contraceptive counseling, where contraceptive options are reviewed and discussed. Medications including oral contraceptive pills, patch, ring, and emergency contraception may be prescribed that same day. Laboratory tests may be required upon completion of the screening questionnaire. Refills of these medications are also available with pharmacy counseling.

Eligible Beneficiaries:

Pharmacy: TRICARE recipients 18 years of age and older who are empaneled in the clinic.

How to Schedule an Appointment:

Pharmacy: Walk in appointments available in the morning, preferably prior to 10:00am and in the afternoon preferably prior to 14:00pm.
